What about an additional category of competition for trans athletes?  

Some may have thought I was being flip in alluding to a similar solution for The Great Bathroom Debate.  Build another bathroom; add a competition category for trans athletes.  I was not, though I wonder how robust the competition would be in various events.  But that could well change over time.
