Very sad indeed. Has it been announced that she took her own life? It seems like everyone is acting as if that is the case even though so little has been reported.

We had several suicides when I was at Stanford, including someone in my dorm my sophomore year.  Devastatingly sad to think how often people suffer in silence rather than reach out, but depression can also make the effort necessary to walk across the room seem unimaginably difficult. One more reason to go through the world treating other people kindly - we never know what inner torment others are bearing.

I haven't seen any announcement about cause of death (and doubt we'll ever see anything officially). Unfortunately, in this young healthy population, the most likely causes of death are by suicide and drug OD.
