Why make the bases bigger.  Easier for forceouts but why.  Gets the first base man father from the base path.

10-15 doubleheader’s but only 13 pitchers ?

With the extension of the season by three days, the Giants who had seven games postponed by the lockout, with only have to make-up four games during the season either by a doubleheader or playing on a currently scheduled off day.  I foresee the Milwaukee series being played during the three day extension and the four games v. San Diego being played via doubleheaders and off days prior to the currently scheduled two series in SD.  

In other words, the number of doubleheaders will be limited to a handful for SF.  

Given the revenue that is lost by playing a doubleheader, I suspect ownership will do everything in their power to limit the number of DH’s played throughout baseball.

More on making up games this season and the ‘23 schedule….

Per The Athletic, the postponed games from the first week will be made up as follows:

The opening series will be played during the three days added to the end of the season (SF will play four games in three days in San Diego) and the second series will be made up on off days or doubleheader’s throughout the season.  This causes a problem for the handful of teams, including SF, that are not scheduled for multiple visits to their opponent’s site.  In those instances, one option being considered is playing the make-up games at the home of the team that is scheduled to host the second series.  For example, SF and Milwaukee might make up some of the missed games at Oracle (with Milwaukee batting last).

The 2023 schedule breakdown:

14 games v. intra-divisional teams (instead of the current 19).  This means two trips to each city instead of three. (56 games)

6 games v. every other team in the league (similar to current structure).  (60 games)

4 games v. a designated team in other league (similar to current structure). (4 games)

3 games v. all other teams in other league (new).  Over a period of two years, every team would visit every stadium once.  (42 games) 


I don’t like the idea of giving up 5 games v. LA every year to play teams like KC and Cleveland but I would love to have had the opportunity to see Ted Williams play so I guess the trade-offs are there…..
