I assume that if the money was similar that Correa would have wanted to remain at shortstop and perhaps in the AL, but it still seems that SF should have been talking to him along these lines. Now we'll see if SF tries something similar with Story.
Castellanos would have been a nice add. 5 for $100 mill. All I see from Giants fans is they are glad they won’t “overpay” for a player. Still she’ll shocked for ‘18 and ‘19. But adding a major FA signing or even two fits easily within what should be a $200,000,000 budget. Fans should be screaming. But they think last year is how it’s going to work. Giants are goin* to outsmart, outwork, out platoon and out comraderie their opposition.
Last year was amazing. Also not sustainable. Plus, the dirty little secret is the offense was led by 4 old dudes - Posey, Craw, Belt and, when healthy, Longoria. Then Bryant when added. The 3 that are left repeating their ‘21 seasons is questionable at best. While other teams at or near the top add on, the Giants look for bargains. Not good.
Castellanos - a nice add, yes; but not for five years. I don’t think he will age well. And, yes, count me among those who are happy to see the Giants not throwing around silly money just to acquire a “name”. I do believe they need a right-handed power bat. However, with the Rangers in the mix for Story (along with SF, Boston and the Yankees), I don’t see him coming to the Giants. Therefore, no big contracts are in the offing.
Heck, maybe Ramos will be the guy we are looking for…….
