That was actually a bad year with a misleading W-L record as is often the case. His ERA+ was 85, meaning 15% worse than league average. He only struck out 5.6/9 innings and registered 0.1 bWAR.
2009 was actually his only season with the Giants when he was above league average. Compared to 2012 he had more strikeouts per nine innings, fewer walks per nine innings, lower ERA, better WHIP, better K/BB ratio, etc. However his record was 10-13.
Saw Zito pitch against Kyle Peterson in a phenomenal Friday night game at Sunken Diamond back in the day. Pitchers duel with both dominant in different ways, one of the best games I've ever seen in person. I think Peterson set the conference record for career strikeouts that night but not sure. Electric atmosphere in any case.
