Why do you think SF screwed the pooch? You've been saying forever that Jimmy G is no good. Plus, those suggesting that there was a robust market for Jimmy G were in fantasyland, based on his contract. And when Jimmy decided to get the surgery, he sealed his fate (and he had to know that). That's okay - he'd rather sign with a team that looks to be best option for him (based on many factors), as opposed to having no control over where he would be traded.
BTW, Indy might be very good with Ryan - but I'll bet Atlanta is a lot better with Mariota. Will be interesting to watch.
Not fantasyland at all, JG would have been traded for (at worst) a third round pick (with possible escalators) absent his shoulder surgery.
I'm not sure how SF could have avoided this situation, thus I don't agree that they erred.
