I think Niners might be able to get a 7th round pick for JG at this point….  They have screwed this up beyond recognition.  He can’t be on the roster next year.  They need the cap space for Bosa and Deebo.  

My guess is he will be released.  Question is when.

Why do you think SF screwed the pooch?  You've been saying forever that Jimmy G is no good.  Plus, those suggesting that there was a robust market for Jimmy G were in fantasyland, based on his contract.  And when Jimmy decided to get the surgery, he sealed his fate (and he had to know that).  That's okay - he'd rather sign with a team that looks to be best option for him (based on many factors), as opposed to having no control over where he would be traded.

BTW, Indy might be very good with Ryan - but I'll bet Atlanta is a lot better with Mariota.  Will be interesting to watch.

Not fantasyland at all, JG would have been traded for (at worst) a third round pick (with possible escalators) absent his shoulder surgery.

I'm not sure how SF could have avoided this situation, thus I don't agree that they erred.

Disagree that they ever would have received a third rounder with escalators. Hes very limited.  Plus he’s hurt a lot.  Add that everyone knew the Niners had to trade him, and the value wasn’t there.  I’m assuming (admittedly may be wrong) they could have dumped him for a 4th or 5th round pick. Maybe they still can.  But if not, just cut the loss and release him.

Makes more sense to trade him, if possible.  If they cut him, they are on the hook for $7.5 million injury benefit. And I may be wrong, but I seem to recall there was another $1.4 million expense associated with cutting Garoppolo
