Avoiding a group with Belgium/Brazil/Argentina or France was helpful.  
Another nice thing about Group B is that they get more rest days than those that start later like Group G or Group H.

The early start for Group B cuts both ways. This year the call-up of the players from their club schedules will be just before the World Cup starts -- I heard it could be as short as 1 week before. So the early start means more rest days during competition, but fewer days to get a team ready before competition starts.
