Forgot about the near secret 18 in Pacific Grove near Asilomar. Back nine especially special.

I'm a brobdingnagian fan of the Poor Man's Pebble Beach, a/k/a Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course.  The front nine is like any other muni.  The back nine is gorgeous, with ice plant for rough.  Mrs. Mick and I were playing one very foggy morning, and it was still and quiet and beautiful and only the sound of the waves and the birds were making any noise.  We were on the green with about 40 yards of visibility and I said "Babe, this is so nice out here, it's just like a private course."  

At that moment, a golf ball came whizzing between our heads, stopping on the green.  Four drunk guys with their shirts off came out of the mist, apologizing when they realized they'd hit into us.  Mrs. Mick said, "Now I remember.  Public course."

The Neville Nine (back nine) is a joy to play. Weekend green fees are $75.
