I've never been there.  I hear it's a magical experience.

I think those phenomena tend to be highly localized.  The first time Arnold Palmer crossed the Atlantic, he finished second at The Open at Royal Birkdale, a course on the west coast of England in Southport.  As he's being driven in, his hosts rhapsodized about the great beauty of the land-and-sea course.  As they're driving by the course, Palmer says "I'm glad it's not this cow pasture," or words to that effect.  Oops...

Separately, I can't recall if it was Muirfield or Carnoustie -- it was a pretty bleak weathery day, and the course wasn't gorgeous -- but the British announcer was going on and on about how the British course was the most beautiful pairing of water and turf in all the world, and his American counterpart sniffed that Pebble Beach wasn't too bad on that front.  Of course, nine of the 18 holes at PB are on the water.

All depends on where you're from.  My dad's a shareholder at Pasatiempo, but his favorite seaside course is Pacific Dunes at the Bandon Dunes resort in Oregon.

Augusta is pretty special.  a couple greens look like they have elephants buried in them.  course is immaculate and the caddies are phenomenal.  do not pass up the opportunity to play it.

on favorite hole, #s 15 or 16 at Cypress are hard to beat, same with #7 at Pebble especially if the wind blows (or if you play #17 from the old blue tee box behind the road).

on great stretches of holes, Amen Corner or #11 thru 17 at Ballybunion.  

on favorite courses, Cypress, then Royal Melbourne and then Augusta.  all Mackenzie layouts.

The whole place still has the stench of Southern racism and it can't be washed off.

Hord Hardin the Masters Chair, in 1982 ended a 46 year tradition in which the pros used local Augusta National caddies for the Masters.  Tom Watson (among others) made the request directly of Hardin that the pros be allowed to use their regular caddies.  After all, reasoned Watson in his message, as an attorney would Mr. Hardin accept a secretary from the secretarial pool instead of his personal secretary in the face of imminent major litigation?  Sound argument, sound reasoning, and the Augusta National caddies were eliminated.  Ironically, Watson won twice and finished second twice between 1977 and 1982 using Augusta National caddies...and never won after that.

Drones may say lives. The best helo pilot I ever flew with understood what we were trying to do with a Tyler mount. Much better if the pilot makes the move and the operator just fights the wind (you are partially hanging out the door frame). He missed a wire on a shoot scout and was gone instantly. I was lucky after 50 flights and only had one hard landing.

Not sure there was a blimp. The aerials were drone shots.

Drones may say lives. The best helo pilot I ever flew with understood what we were trying to do with a Tyler mount. Much better if the pilot makes the move and the operator just fights the wind (you are partially hanging out the door frame). He missed a wire on a shoot scout and was gone instantly. I heard an incessant droning as one of the players lined up a shot. Thought that has to be irritating for the players. . . .
