Stanford did play and earn the right to host a regional and or super. Obviously winning the tourney will solidify all that, but all that should have been solidified when they won the Pac title. I don't see any more teams getting into regional play unless they win this tourney. Cal, U of W, and ASU will not be selected if they lose this thing. So jeopardizing position players and pitching for a conference tourney when Stanford, OSU, UO, U of A, and UCLA should be a lock. Selection committee will find a way to get schools with losing records from the ACC and SEC in anyway. All 5 Pac schools should be a lock with conference and overall records. Kyle Peterson will find a way to justify Vandy winning it all in the end!
Five Pac 12 teams are a lock, and none of the others are close.
UW is a bit of an interesting case as they've managed to get their overall record up to 30-24.
Their non-conference schedule was quite weak, including 4 games vs. No. Colo. (9-36), 3 vs Seattle (15-31), 4 vs UCSD (23-30), Utah Valley (18-37), UCR (8-42) etc, leading them to a #86 RPI - 8th among the Pac-12 teams.
If Vandy wins it all in the end, I don't know why they would need justification. I suspect you mean that you don't like them making the tournament with a sub 0.500 conference record. I don't like that in general, but Vandy has a decent case.
Vandy is 35-19 overall.
Vandy has a #5 RPI, 2nd among SEC teams.
Their non-conference schedule included legitimate powers Ok State and Louisville, but also seemed to have played the RPI well with games against stronger teams in weak leagues. All leading to the RPI-rated toughest schedule in the country and #4 non-conference RPI.
There will be more teams in the tournament from the ACC and SEC than seems right (something like 11 and 9), but the worst of those have an overall winning percentage better, and RPI much better, than the best Pac 12 team that will be left out.

I don't see a lot of jeopardizing of position players going on, but a conference tournament can be tough on a pitching staff. If there were no tournament, the Pac 12 teams would be playing a three-game series this weekend anyway, and possibly a fourth mid-week game. In the conference tournament, teams will play at least two games. Winning the tournament can take from four to six games. That's also one more than needed to get through a regional, but for most teams fairly similar to the no-tournament alternative.
My recommendation for Stanford would be to treat the first three games like a weekend series, or maybe a midweek game plus a weekend series, but keep pitch counts reasonable. If they happen to still be playing after four games then reach deep into the bullpen and maybe the bats will carry the day. Stanford is probably a top-8 seed regardless of the conference tournament results, so keep everyone on regular rotation and plan for next week
Injury can happen in any game, so that is where position players are jeopardized in this tourney. I would rather take the rest to a staff and bullpen at this point of the season to prepare for regional play. You have to go into this tournament to win it, so you can solidify being a top 8 seed. There is no guarantee for a top 8 seed, especially if you go 2 and out!
