We came to expect it, and it sure seemed like we needed it. I hope the bats come to life and the rest of the pitching staff steps up like they did last night. Fight like heck to give Williams another chance to go out on top, he deserves it! (Along the same line of thinking, it would be a massive bummer for Jones to go out like this too. He just needs one to get going, hopefully he finds it early and often.)
I thought it was pretty clear that Williams didn't have his best stuff. He didn't seem to have as much movement on his pitches as usual and they succeeded in getting his pitch count high early. I thought we should have pulled him much earlier. That way if we lost he might be good for a few innings today or tomorrow if we get that far.
Jones also worries me, he looked exactly like he did in early season, not like he has looked the last couple of months. I fear he is sort of a head case and if gets he down on himself he finds it hard to get his mojo back. We sure need the Jones of April and May.
We need hitting and somehow get a win in the next game from whatever platoon of pitchers they put out there. Getting to tomorrow won't be easy.
I think post season results are more often affected by pitching, not hitting. We face better pitchers and hitters often don't produce as well. Our pitching staff worries me.
