While the Williams situation certainly has me questioning how deep Stanford could go in Omaha, yesterday was not a total disaster for the Card. Pitching was spared for the most part, UConn had to use their closer (and watch a lot of balls leave the yard) and Brock Jones is back! UConn has their ace ready to go after 150+ pitches last weekend. He, like Williams, had lots of deep 100+ pitch outings this year. Scoring early and often will be necessary. Once again Stanford has an interesting decision as to when to us Matthews. Hopefully Dixon (if he's the starter today) can have a quality outing and give the bats a chance to create some separation.
Pitching has never been a strength of this team, the bat has been what got us where we are. I wonder if any team has ever hit 8 home runs in a game and lost. Williams has pitched some gems for us, but against better hitting teams, he has not done so well. Have we leaned on his arm too much this season. Lets hope the pitching committee is ready to go today.
