Gargus has actually played a bit. Going into this season I thought he was more likely than Graham to emerge as the first baseman. 

Dieter's not a pro, at least yet. 

Here is a note I wrote about him a couple of weeks ago. 

Unbelievable. New Mexico State tied the game with OSU in the ninth inning, but then their pitcher threw eight straight balls to load the bases and walk in the winning run in the bottom of the tenth. With two out. Beavers avoid the upset, 5-4.

In fact, all four Beavs who got on base in the tenth got there via a walk - one intentional. 

On that NMSU team is former Stanford player Brandon Dieter. He played at Stanford in 2019 and 2020 as a middle infielder and pitcher. Started for the beginning of the season in 2019 at shortstop and second base but lost the job later on. Started at the beginning of 2020 at shortstop but then lost the job. The issue seems to be primarily on offense where he never got the bat going. Upon transferring to NMSU he's been the starting shortstop and leadoff hitter for all of 2021 and this year, but hasn't appeared in a game since the end of the regular season (where he pitched an inning). I would guess that means he got injured, but cannot find anything on the web stating so.

During the tv broadcast it was stated that Cody Jensen had a productive freshman season followed by the COVID cancelled season followed by last season in which he had an injury issue.  Mr. Jensen and Mr. Meier have been a very pleasant surprise this late in the season, but these late season surprises do happen with some frequency in college baseball due to how the schedules are planned during the season and then followed by regional and super regional format.

I missed that comment in the broadcast. However, I made a similar comment after the game.

Cody Jensen had a promising frosh year in 2019 and was perhaps our best pitcher in the tough super regional series at Mississippi State. He struggled (along with the whole team) in the aborted 2020 season. Got injured and red shirted in 2021. This year he has had quite a few appearances, but hadn't appeared in almost a month and hadn't appeared in a weekend game since mid-April until Saturday. He pitched well on Saturday, with only a HBP marring an otherwise perfect two innings. If he were to return, I could see him as a major contributor next year. ]
