I mean, either way, unless Stanford has a miracle run in the last two innings, we will be out of the CWS, so I take no comfort.
But in baseball, especially, I think it is a bad idea to overgeneralize.
That being said, Warren Nolan has the SEC as the top conference by ELO (though Tennessee was the top team by ELO, which I think goes to show how good teams can lose in short series).
Auburn’s ELO was about 64 points below Stanford’s per Nolan. That would predict Stanford to have a 54% chance of winning, which is little more than a coin flip.
