Santa Clara dropped D1 football in 1952 and revived it as a D2 program in 1959. They were hurting for local opponents, and could only field a five game schedule in 1959, playing USF twice. In 1960, they had a more conventional schedule, but they ended the season with a formal game against: San Quentin. (p. 5):

San Quentin played a number of local teams, and their best season was 1956 when they went 8-1, losing only to San Francisco State Gators. Apparently, a number of correctional institutions played local colleges in the 1950s:
