January 16, 2013. One of the most memorable days of College Football, and it wasn't even in season.
I was in my car and I heard some bombshell news (at least for us): Chip Kelly had signed with the Eagles. The reason it piqued my interest is that the NCAA was closing in on some violations on Duck players, so I had my suspicions that the Chipster had additional motivation to bail suddenly.
I got home and was searching for news of Kelly leaving UO, and found another juicy tidbit. Some background - USC was at the Sun Bowl, and had already lowered the bar with their pregame behavior. One player had tweeted "El Paso is a sh***y city" and Lane Kiffen brought his team to the pregame dinner either an hour or 90 minutes late (George Tech took off before they arrived). On Jan 16, the story broke that there was a big brawl in the USC locker room post game, as younger players felt the seniors hadn't given their best effort.
I then turned on ESPN to see how they were treating these stories. There wasn't even a mention. What a day that was.
