Garvin, it seemed to me that Harbaugh locked in on Tavita Pritchard after the US.C upset game and stayed with him through thick and thin. Remember how he red shirted Andrew Luck in favor of Pritchard? I attributed this to Harbaugh finding a kindred spirit that he leaned on to change the culture and spirit of the team beyond what I saw on Saturday afternoons.
I liked Tavita, I rooted for Tavita, i'd want my daughter to date Tavita (should I ever be convinced to let her date before turning 35!) but I wasn't always sure he gave us the best chance to win. Did you see it differently in those years?
By the way he's shown similar patience with a sometimes embattled Alex Smith as coach of the 49ers.
