David Lombardi compared the command Trey Lance had in the last two days of "move the ball" periods as impressive. He compared the command of the offense and feel he got from watching Lance in person yesterday as comparable to being there to see Andrew Luck in the Fiesta Bowl.
Shanahan put 1:15 on the clock and a score of opponent leading 24-20. Lance needed a TD drive against the #1 defense. He got it on the last play as time expired. The previous day the offense was backed up to the 5 yard line facing 1st and 20. Lance engineered a first down against the # defense.
Lance threw a bad pick to Jimmy Ward before his no huddle end of game performance, but he's now 14-20 (70%) 1/1 over two days of as close to a real game tests as practice gets. Lombardi pointed out that last year in similar situations Lance was only 48%. Yes, it's a small sample size, but it's pretty clearly evident Lance has improved a ton since this time last year and will be much better than he was as a rookie.
Will he be as good as Garoppolo was last season or better? I don't know, but I am now ready to go out on a limb and say Lance will at least be a Top half of the NFL QB in 2022. I've suspected he would be much improved and stop the "they traded too much for him" talk, but there hasn't been any real tangible proof to demonstrate it until now. I like making predictions before things are obvious, so am calling my shot on Lance now.
