During that scrimmage, UCD actually kicked Stanford's ass and that gave them the confidence to compete with Stanford the following year when it counted. I'm sure their coach was telling them before the game: we can beat these guys, we did it last year, just play hard...Which knucklehead thought letting UC-D "feel you out" before playing you was a good idea should have been reprimanded. Dumb idea.
Plus the Pac-10 being a wannabe big boy conference and not even having enough resources to have instant replay for every game, which made the difference in that game by wiping out a Nick Sanchez interception that would have allowed Stanford to squeak by.
Not that we should ever squeak by UC Davis. That was a dark day.
