That was quite the game - I think Stanford was still trying to figure out life without Palumbis (1-3 at that point), and the Cornell game provided some (perhaps inflated) confidence that Stanford could win. Stanford went onto beat kal with both teams ranked (has that happened since?) and went to the Aloha Bowl.
Stanford invited Cornell to play that year as part of the Centennial celebration - a special one-off as Stanford was modeled after Cornell way back when.
