I can't even aspire to match msqueri's evaluation. Obviously 4 turnovers is a concern. I generally liked what I saw on defense. Unlike previous years, this defense looked like they were executing a plan, people were basically in the right place, we didn't miss lots of tackles. I thought Damuni read the play on his almost interception and ran to the spot like he was shot from a gun. It was supposed to be a screen pass I think. We also had guys flowing to the ball as opposed to locked up with somebody. Obviously, the level of competition modulates this. We will see more clearly next week.
I was generally disappointed by our OLs run blocking. The ongoing problem is immediate penetration into the backfield stopping the play before it starts. It appears there are defenders that are simply unblocked. One could believe that occasionally the defense will guess right and get through clean, but when it happens regularly, something is wrong. Interestingly, we didn't seem to have that problem on the goal line. One wonders if there isn't a case of being "too cute" on regular running plays and not just hitting the guy in front of you. I am not qualified to say what the problem actually is, but I am qualified to say it exists. OTOH our pass blocking seemed to be pretty good. Again, we will know a lot more after next week.
