I think there is no question Harbaugh values McNamara's intangibles more than the fans do, but eventually talent will tell. In a way it is (IMHO) eerily similar to Pritchard-Luck, except McNamara had a much better defense behind him :-).
It is also IMHO important to note that Harbaugh did not start Kap "over" Smith. Smith was out injured. Kap performed well and Smith didn't get the job back. Lots easier to justify the decision when you were forced to do the experiment.
