Troy Taylor abd stop there

Love Troy Taylor and he is definitely on my short list. Gives me some pause that Jim Harbaugh is the only non-FBS or NFL coach to engineer a Power Five turnaround this century. Harbaugh is a great coach and may be sui generis. Part of this may be sample size/selection bias, but it does jump out to me that the best practices for teams in our situation are to hire either proven big-time coaches or proven Group of Five coaches. The jump from Sacramento State to Stanford may be too big. Not to say Taylor isn't on my short list, he very much is. And maybe it says something about Stanford that Stanford's past turnarounds (Willingham, Harbaugh) have been unorthodox choices.
