Sad news today. Dante Dettamonti, the Stanford water polo coach from 1977-2001, was killed yesterday while riding his bike in Woodside. He won 8 national Championships in 25 years, winning a championship in 4 different decades, the only NCAA water polo coach to do this. He remained active in the water polo community after his retirement, providing his knowledge and coaching skills to everyone from Masters teams to a stint as coach at Menlo Atherton HS. He placed 6th in the Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon in 1981. He is a much beloved fixture in the Water Polo community and this is a great loss.
