I knew him because of his wine. Back in the day he made a great Cabernet that was sold at what is now Parkside Grill. Actually met him at the bar there years ago. It was a while before I learned he coached water polo at Stanford. This was in about 2003 or so, not long after he retired from coaching at Stanford.
