So....

I'm talking with a friend Sunday night about the Rams game, and how the hell the team we saw play so piss poorly last week could possibly be so dominant the following week.  He proceeds to tell me they had real practices last week after not practicing for two weeks before the Chiefs game. I said whaddya mean they didn't practice. He tells me they might have gone through plays, but this was first time in three weeks they had a real one. This was good to know because it didn't look like they practiced before last week's game for sure. 

This also made sense because the Jonnydel video of the game on YouTube betrayed a team exceptionally undisciplined in all phases.  I had known about the Chiefs not bothering to even block DL because I heard Tim Ryan talk about it on drive home from game, and seen the penalties, but I didn't know how many other times individual players didn't do their job that can be attributed to lack of coaching/practice. It's a miracle it was 28-23 in the 4th they were so bad.

It WAS a poorly prepared team against KC. I had attributed the failures to Shanahan struggling to be a Head Coach and coordinate the Offense without Mike McDaniel around, how bad coaching produces such poor execution and lack of discipline. But maybe it was just a game the Niners were not ready to play for reasons out of Shanahan's control (couldn't practice properly due to so many injuries).

So we have now understandable reasons for each loss in 2022 so far:

Bears: Undisciplined play by otherwise dominant defense, Shanahan not playing the weather right, Lance behind in monsoon rain
Broncos: Jimmy G's first time playing after missing all OTAs and Training Camp
Falcons: Just too many starters out with injury
Chiefs: Not able to practice properly because too many injuries, incorporating McCaffrey into game after arriving two days before game

I still don't believe Shanahan managed the QB situation well, and the team should be 6-2, but all is not lost yet apparently. Armstead's return should shore up the run defense against teams that know how to run the ball, and we might finally see a representative version of the '22 Niners after the bye week. It will have only taken 8 games.
