Tolbert's partner, a black man named Copes (Copeland?) stated a belief that if a white player posted something about a KKK book or movie that the Empire that is the NBA would crush him. Tolbert agreed.

Might depend a bit on how prominent that white player was. If it were Larry Bird, they might find a way to look past it. A "generic" player would indeed be crushed. It is obvious that Kyrie Irving has previously been given a pass on behavior that probably a role player couldn't get away with. Why, I don't know because I don't think he is that good, but it is what it is (or was anyway).
