As someone who has been critical of David Shaw for some time, I have a great deal of respect for him to make this move. While it seems hard to believe he totally on his own this week decided "it was time" as I just saw he said in his presser, stepping down  - as opposed to being fired - really helps Stanford and demonstrates the love he has for the university and the trust involved between him and the university as his employer.

Most importantly, the fact Shaw is stepping down means there is no costly buyout. And with the mediocrity accepted from the MBB Head Coach, whoever takes the job knows they will get a long leash, which should increase the job's appeal at least a little bit.

Of course, Shaw also made news in the presser by effectively confirming Stanford will be participating in the transfer portal in a way it has yet to do, and that so many have been clamoring to do. This too should make the job more attractive to top candidates.

Should be fun to participate in the coaching carousel discussion thread as it develops. Stanford fans haven't really seen an open market Football coaching search since Harbaugh was hired. Seems like a lot longer than 15 years ago too.
