You are going to get sick of me making this point because I will be persistent.

Stanford should do what USC did last year.  Find a highly successful coach stuck in a not-so-nice state, with a great team, and purchase the whole program as a package.  I doubt anyone dreams of living in Tuscaloosa as a child.  Just say'n.  

Slightly more seriously, with $9 million to spend, I think the idea shouldn't be to look for 'available' coaches, per se, but rather lure a good one away from a big-league team stuck in a backwater town.  $9 million a year can buy a top-10 coach.  Bump that to $12m, and that would be a pay-raise for any coach in the country.  And the extra $3 million would pay for itself through ticket sales, TV revenues, and major bowl games.
