Hey, WIM, I have a question. Did the Shaw displacement lead to a re-engagement with the Cardboard?  I know you were one of the more prolific posters here, then curtailed quite a bit during the Shawpocalypse, but now are back initiating threads and participating in discussion once he announced his departure. Coincidence?

On the topic of media pundits opining about Stanford Football HC candidates, we need to keep something in mind. Stanford operates in about as much secrecy as any program there is. Big programs can't keep secrets because there is too much interest. Programs like Cal are like open books because it runs such a loose ship. Stanford OTOH, doesn't leak and there just isn't a visible booster presence that filters down to even people  like BobK, who seem to be the most plugged in source on this board. IOW, any poster on here speculating is likely to be as informed about what Stanford might be doing as Jon Wilner.

Even the Stanford sports site publishers don't have much of an idea about what Stanford is thinking or doing. People on this board - who I would say are pretty close to Stanford sports - were speculating Stanford might be inclined to drop football, rather than embrace the Transfer Portal and NIL. And nobody here thought Shaw would depart, yet that's exactly what happened. 

So it's pretty pointless for anyone to claim they know what Stanford will do. Now, someone like Wilner might get various agents calling him to pump out names to drive up the perceived demand for their clients by connecting them with Stanford, but I don't see anyone having any real inside sources into Stanford, not even reporters who's job is covering Stanford sports. Based on what I know, parents of athletes are the best available sources, and they don't know what is going on with the big strategic issues.
