Not sure I agree. I think a lot depends on what Stanford is going to do about NIL & portal, and I think those things need to be solidified before talking to any coaches. I expect every candidate for the job to ask Muir what he's doing about them, and if he doesn't have a clear answer I would be a lot less interested in the job.

Then we can throw that in the growing pile of "reasons that Muir should be fired." NIL & portal aren't just about football, although their impact on football appears more pronounced than any other sport. Stanford should have had a plan at least six months ago. It doesn't need to be a mind-blowing plan, but there doesn't appear to be anything. My understanding is that all three golfers who have significant NIL deals did them with no help from Stanford. Just one set of examples I'm sure there are many others.
Of all that's happened in the last four years, this is the most mind-blowing. Forget about having a plan, this feels like Muir was blown away with surprise.
