If Troy Taylor can get over and won't be bothered by being "disowned" by Cal world, he would be my #1 choice. Taylor reminds me a little bit of guys like Urban Meyer and Brian Kelly, only rather than winning at multiple lower levels and always succeeding as they progressed, Taylor has high level assistant experience and was a successful OC, then the proven track record in FCS at Sac State, so you don't have to worry he can't handle the jump from FCS to Power 5.

Troy Taylor's time as an OC at Utah was anything but successful and his departure was not voluntary. You could blame it on a clash of ideas with the head coach, but that does not make it a success. He may well be a very good head coaching choice at Stanford but it won't be because of anything that happened at Utah, other than perhaps experience handling a "difficult" situation in a classy manner.

Indeed he has had success at Sacramento State. In fact, I do think he is a guy we should look at. What I was pushing against was the idea his time at Utah was a success. It was certainly not. It is also true that while Whittingham went through eight OCs, some of them left for better jobs and AFAIK even the guys he got rid of didn't have the job basically taken away from them after 4 games (as Taylor did).

There are many that have stated it was a clash of ideas. Whittingham wanted a run first conservative offense and Taylor wanted a more wide open attack. Unsurprisingly, Taylor lost that argument. Doesn't mean he isn't a good coach. In fact, going to Sacramento State may just show he wanted his own program, which may be exactly what we need. If anything, I would be concerned that his contact with PAC-12 football was such a bad experience he might decide to stay where he is.
