Here’s GPT’s Homeric ode to Jim Harbaugh.

In ancient days of yore,
There was a man named Harbaugh,
Whose exploits on the football field
Did the world in awe.

At Stanford, he did reign,
With a team of warriors true,
Their might on the gridiron
Was a sight most wondrous to view.

Jim Harbaugh, the mighty coach,
Did lead his team with skill and grace,
Their opponents did tremble
In fear of their disgrace.

With passes and runs aplenty,
They did score many a touchdown,
And the fans did cheer
As the team did mow them down.

I mean people fretted when Google made finding information much easier. These things are tools, and what we should be learning is how to harness the tools to make us work better.

GPT-3’s output is good, and convincingly “human”, but it is trained on the corpus of human output, which is by definition “average” and lowest common denominator. But I could imagine a world where human and AI work together to make something new and great.
