While it is true no team has made a playoff run with the circumstances the Niners now find themselves in with Brock Purdy at QB, most rookie QBs don't get put into such situations either.It is entirely possible that a team with a dominant defense and just a "game manager" QB can win in the playoffs and even a Super Bowl. The Niners are built for the playoffs, where physicality and defense rule the roost. 

I personally don't think there is any play Garoppolo could make that Purdy can't, and Purdy can extend plays in a way Garoppolo can't. This isn't to say Purdy will be better than Garoppolo or gives the Niners a better chance to win. But it is a fact that Purdy was a 4 year starter in college in a Power 5 conference. He has played a lot of football, has an ability to make broken plays, and has seen a lot, so he isn't overwhelmed by the NFL. That in and of itself is a big deal.

One thing I have learned over the years is that though all QBs tend to struggle under pressure, there is a big difference between surviving under pressure against mostly man overage like Purdy did against the Dolphins, and being able to read zone defenses. It can be really difficult to diagnose if the coverage is zone or man, and sometimes it can be one on one side of the field and another on the other side.  We'll have to see how Purdy does against zone defenses before we can know too much about his potential. 

I hope Purdy's mindset is not to be overwhelmed by the situation he has been thrust into, and instead he takes what he has been given as a staggeringly awesome opportunity nobody in his position has ever had a chance to do before. Mr. Irrelevant has never before been, and likely will never be, more relevant again!

This article rates Purdy as 8th of 9 quarterbacks taken in the 2022 draft, however, the descriptive paragraph reads: 

"Mr. Irrelevant won't be threatening Trey Lance anytime soon, entering with questions about his build and athletic profile. But he's drawn high reviews for his smarts, experience and timing-based success -- all key traits for a Kyle Shanahan offense."

Throw in McCaffrey, Samuel, Aiyuk, Jennings, Kittle, Juszczyk, and Mason...and you've got some real potential there.

No idea what Purdy can do.  Can’t see how anyone can determine that there is not “any play he can’t make that Garrapolo can.” Start with progressions, finding secondary receivers, audiblizing, reading an NFL defense. All of which will be difficult for Purdy. You thought JG was a game manager? Well, Purdy is going to be the ultimate game manager. Defense. Run. DONT TURN IT OVER. That will be the mantra. If, as I believe, his arm is below average, defenses will start to cheat and jump routes. Avoiding INT’s is crucial. Niners are going to try to be Trent Dilfers Bucs in an offensive minded era.

I’ve seen too many times someone come off the bench and look good.  Then the opposition gets some film. And reality sets in.  One thing - as I said it did not look to me like he has a strong arm. Not a determining factor in Shanahans offense.  But expect defenses to bring the safeties up and make him prove he can throw downfield.

Defenses have keyed on CMac since he got there.  More so now.  Hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see them winning the division with Purdy. They have a somewhat tough schedule coming up. Made tougher by Commanders being surprisingly decent and the Rayduhs coming on.

If I’m Lynch I’m at least working out Fitzgerald and Newton if either are interested. Kaepernick has been out too long.  Plus they don’t need the distraction the media circus would bring.  

Finally, the protection has to improve.  It was horrible Sunday. Otherwise we will be talking about Eason…..
