It seems like the Greg Roman trial balloon was shot down pretty quickly. 

My money is on Troy Taylor at this point.

Seems like an exciting choice based recent record and fit.
Cal/Pac 12 roots, Utah OC, and California experience all suggest he will get Stanford and be able to sell it.
I say that not knowing anything about his coaching style or what his success is attributed to?
Football brains? Motivator? Talent spotter? All of the above?
Would be great to hear from those that know more about him.

I know this should be reserved for if Taylor is hired by Stanford, but I watched extended highlights of Sac State's first round playoff game against Richmond in a rain storm. Spiders 31 Hornets 38, and Sac State was down 21-10 at one point in first half.

It looked to me like Richmond had more talent, which to me suggests a guy who gets his players to buy-in and play as a team. What stands out the most is Taylor runs a two QB system.  One QB is more of a run threat who rarely passes, and another who is more of a passer who rarely runs.  Their best player is a TE from what I could tell, kind of a physical mismatch at the FCS level.

It's striking how slow these guys look compared to watching NFL and FBS games, but it's all relative when it comes to coaching.  After watching this game I came away thinking Sac State will be eliminated before the semi-finals because the defense isn't good enough.
