Think that may be too broad of a speculation. Not sure if the Mariners were interested, but my guess is that California didn't suit the kid from the Southeast. He turned down a $342 million deal with the Padres for a $300 million deal with the Phillies. Wow.
I guess he figured he’d rather try to scrape by on $300,000,000 and live where he prefers.
My memory is failing me, but I thought I posted something a few days ago that NYC and the Bay Area may not be an enticement for players, and you contradicted that, saying you like it here. I ask you, would you give up $42 million to stay here, or even 15% of a contract? And that doesn't even include cost of living, taxes, etc.
Not me.
But if I was being paid $300,000,000, I’d gladly pay an xtra 42 million or 15 percent in taxes to live where I want. I could scrape by on the meager $150,000,000 or so after taxes. Heck, I’d even be able to leave my kids a few bucks…..
