If it's between Taylor and Garrett, I see pros and cons with each.
Has Taylor been talked about in connection to other FBS head coach job openings? At least Garrett--by some accounts, anyway--pursued the Duke opening last year.
I think Stanford needs a coach hungry to succeed at the Pac-level, period. It's not going to be an easy turnaround, either. Show me that Taylor is all in on his career being defined by his time as Stanford coach. If that's the case, sure, he'd have my vote over Garrett. Just not sure that's the case.
(FWLIW, my idea of a home run hire would be Jonathan Smith, and my "plan B" guys would be major college coordinators with a clear trajectory toward being a HC, including Oregon State's OC Lindgren.)
