Shaw's record in bowl games was 5-3.  His record in BCS bowls was 2-2.  Before Shaw, the last time we had won a Rose Bowl, I wasn't even alive.  For every loss to Michigan State, there's a demolishing of Iowa. The other team has a say too, and Oklahoma State was an elite team (BCS #3 in the country), while Michigan State had an elite defense (second best in the country by FEI).
