I agree, they haven't signed the mega-buck free agent since that enormous success, Barry Zito and they missed out on the other enormous success, Pablo Sandoval. The Giants' attendance has declined seven years in a row, on a per game basis (not including the COVID years), but basically every year since 2015. Judging by the hoards of people who haven't been attending games at Oracle, I would say that the Giants are not fooling their fans and not getting away with it.

Agreed, we missed on Judge. He used us to get a higher offer from the Yankees, and that's fine. I didn't think then, and I still don't think he'll be a great mid-term or long-term play, not the way Ohtani will be. I think the Yankees will get two great years out of Judge, two good years and the rest will be mediocre or worse.
Agreed, we missed on Correa, but frankly...even before the medical failure announcement, I was concerned about his health. 7 times on the IR in 8 years, most for back issues? Knee and thumb issues? That dude is used up. And Cohen/Mets have gone to $400 mms. payroll to sign him when the tax level is $233 mms.? I don't think the value was there for Correa, not for a guy who played in 85% of his team's games exactly once since his rookie year. Frankly, I think it says something that Correa took $35 million less to play for the Mets. By signing with the Mets, Correa knows he won't measure up physically, in the same way that Pablo Sandoval knew he would eat everything in sight and tank big time when he joined the Red Sox and wouldn't sign an SFG contract with a weight gain clause.
The Giants signed four of the top 50 free agents, otherwise. The rest of the division combined signed two.
Now the Giants have to find value in the trade market. I have confidence that they will do so. Yeah, I know they won 81 games with demonstrably the worst defense in baseball -- and 107 games the year before, which everyone has conveniently forgotten. I think the shift rule changes and the new FA's will put them in the low 90 win category.
This team is worse. 75 wins. Maybe. Unless something major trade wise happens.

1. The Mets have a $400 million payroll, and their luxury tax is $111 million. I know you and I don't have to pay it, but they won't come close to recouping it. Good for the Mets that they have the single owner in all of MLB wno is willing to reach deep into his pockets.
