Between April 2021 and May 2022 UConn had 4 players transfer out. Geno tends to keep his rotation to 7, maybe 8 players, even if it is a game they easily win.  Usually he only goes deeper than that in the last minute or two of the game.

His philosophy seems to be you earn your playing time in practice and if the player isn’t ready to play to his standards, putting them in will make the starters have to work harder.

This causes players who want to play that don’t meet his standards to transfer.

Would be interesting if the South Carolina game is cancelled. Some UConn fans have been saying Stanford and South Carolina played weaker OOC schedules than they should of.

This is so true.  UConn’s small roster is a direct result of his coaching philosophy.  Only the star players play.  The play 35 mins even in brobdingnagian blowouts.  They get to pad their stats for all American honors.  And the very highly ranked bench players don’t play.  Thus a lot of them transfer out.  Contrast that with how little Brink and Jones play especially in blowouts and how much time all 15 players get on the court.  It’s a different coaching philosophy but one of them is much much better at weathering injuries.  So it’s not just bad luck it is also a purposeful decision that the UConn coaching staff has made.  Because they could really used players like Saylor Poffenberger and Mir Mcclean who are all doing well on their new teams
