IMO, SF has to find another backstop (probably via a trade).  

As for Correa, given the difficulty the Mets are having negotiating with Correa re: an adjusted deal, I highly doubt that SF would have had any better luck trying to redo their agreement.  If I was a Mets fan, I would still be confident that Cohen will figure out a solution.  However, the Twins are lurking in the background.

Having said that, yes, the Giants learned a hard lesson regarding future free agents - do not schedule a press conference until the medical exam has been completed.

Cohen learned the same lesson; e.g., speaking to the press and confirming a free agent before all the facts were in. The only difference is that the Giants had a positive (but erroneous) medical report from the Twins and Cohen had lead information from the Giants. Thanks to the Giants that it was uncovered at all. To me, Correa was an odd fit with the Mets. They already have a terrific shortstop and three very good third basemen.

Giants need two new catchers, IMHO. Bart would be a serviceable backup. He doesn't hit or field well. Had the third most errors among NL catchers last year. Less range, weaker arm. That's not good. Add in his .660 OPS and...yeah. Bailey hit .225 in AA. Not answer.  

BTW, speaking of Joey Bart, and just looking at the Giants' 2018 draft, they took 40 players and four have made a major league roster. Two of them, Bart and Villar have contributed, and Hjelle has a negative WAR so far.  Of the teams in the division, the Giants did the best, and Arizona did the second best in that draft with their 1st and 2nd round picks making the major league rosters, both outfielders. One, Alex McCarthy is doing okay, the other terrible. Padres are next, with five picks making the majors, three with negative WAR, and the only one who made it is a fifth outfielder playing for Cleveland and an okay reliever now playing for Kansas City.  Oddly, the Dodgers did the worst in that draft. Only two selections have made the majors, though their 7th round pick hit two HRs in 13 ABs.  Their first round pick hasn't made it past High A after being traded to the A's and Mets.

Cohen ‘s situation not remotely the same. First, he already has a loaded deck.  Second, but/for scheduling the press conference prior to his physical, the Giants potentially would have been able to try and quietly rework the deal.  Once they cancelled and it got out that opportunity was gone. And it had to have left a bad feeling with Correa towards the Giants. Moreover, there was no reason to jump the gun on scheduling. It’s not as if there is a time limit.
