So. Carolina had trouble with the matchup zone of Miss. State, but still won by 7. Neither team seemed to have 3 point shooters to spread out the defense. Shooting percentages by each team were pretty bad (38% vs 30%), reflecting the other team's defense. FT% was 58% vs 40%. Ouch. FTA were 24 to 5 (22 to 3 with 2 minutes left in the game)
I'm watching the replay of Utah@Colorado. Regarding a foul at Q1 1:48l. Missy is calling fouls this year on the offense when a player A passes or hands off to a player B cutting by her and player B's defender runs into the player A. Player A doesn't change direction, stick a leg out, or even move much. Player A, in my opinion, is the first to the spot. (In this case, the defender stuck her hands up to wedge through the two offensive players, and caught player A under the chin. But Missy called the foul on player A.) I don't understand the change on these calls this year.. I didn't see any change in rules or points of emphasis. I would agree with the call if player A rotates and backs up into the defender, but that's not what is happening.
PAC-12 networks is VERY FRUSTRATING. They show original programming maybe 10-15% of their broadcast day in season, and almost 0% during the summer. So what do they do with their rebroadcasts? Cut the game play and put in ads. A basketball game is 40 minutes. Their "replay" of the Utah@Colorado game uses 90 minutes of broadcast, but they dropped 6:30 (16%) of the game. That was the period in which Colorado caught up and passed Utah. I wonder what happened, but I'll never know.
Anyone know why a network like the PAC-12 with so much dead-time in their schedule cuts games for replays? Is it financial, where they have to pay someone more if they air the whole game?
