I suppose here's how I look at it. When Farhan took over, the team that was left to him finished 24th in overall WAR in both 2018 and 2019, per baseball-reference.com. In 2020, the Giants jumped to 15th overall and in 2021, the Giants jumped again to 2nd overall. Not surprising, given their 107 wins. In 2022, the Giants finished at 18th.
Right now, FanGraphs is projecting the Giants at 19th in overall WAR. So if we finished 18th last year and ended up with an 81-81 record and FanGraphs thinks we're going to drop a spot, I feel comfortable that we should have much better feeling, and comfortable in asserting we're headed for at least 86 wins and maybe more, particularly given the overall forward nature of the Giants' progress since Farhan has been here. I would treat this past year as an anomaly.
