Late Night LaMonte Wade just signed for about 1/5th of what Brandon Belt would have cost. BTW, Belt is going to Toronto to DH, not to play first base.

And just a little bit OT, but as you all know, Shawn Purdy, Brock's father, played in the SF Giants organization. He was in AAA Phoenix and had a pretty good season, going 10-3. 14 of the 23 pitchers were called up to the big club that season, but not Purdy. He had the second best record on the staff. Like his son, didn't have a cannon for an arm, about 4-5 strikeouts every 9 innings. Eight pitchers with worse ERAs than Purdy got called up. Interesting.

I’m not ready to define success by wins per dollar…. Having said that, it was clear Belt was not in Giants plan.  That’s fine. But I’m also not particularly excited about a Wade /Davis platoon…..

Of course not. They're not your dollars, and therefore, not a consideration you would consider important.  Every business in the world considers it to be important, but it's the prerogative of fans who don't have to make multi million/hundreds of millions of dollars of investment.

Belt's OPS dropped nearly 300 points from 2021 to 2022. He's no longer a fielder, though at one time he was a legitimately great fielder. Toronto wants him to be their designated hitter.

J. D. Davis' OPS last year was .857, beating out Brandon Belt by nearly 200 points. True, Late Night LaMonte had a .665 OPS last injury riddled year, but it was .805 the year before.

Look, I realize that the Giants are betting on the come in a of immense proportions way. But whether they had Judge or Correa (or Harper or Stanton or Bryant), they'd still be betting on the come, with slightly better odds.

I like this team.  I am excited. Feels like 2021 to me.

Whether the payroll is $180 million or $230 million, the owners will make plenty of money. Anyone that gets into sports as solely an investment is in the wrong business.

Great.  Feels like 2022 to me.  Always a fan. But nothing about this team particularly excites me. No problem not resigning Belt.  Said that.  

Giants essentially promised a big splash.  Nope.  They’d be more athletic (a teeny bit) improve their defense (not really) and have more regulars (maybe).

C. Bart/?  Time for Joey to pick it up.  If not C will be a position of major weakness. 
1B Wade and Flores/Davis.  The former has had 6 good weeks. Davis is a defensive liability.
2b Estrada. Like him.  Leave him alone and let him develop there.
SS. Craw.  Be interesting.  I expect him to play defensively like he did after he came back healthy.  Not expecting too much offensively.
3b. Probably Villar. At least young with upside. 
LF. Conforto l. For one year if he’s good.  Let’s hope so
Cf. Yaz/Slater. Should be adequate.
RF. Haniger. Potentially their best hitter
DH Pederson/Flores/Davis.  Strong. 

Overall - no better than adequate.  No major presence in the lineup.  Very little speed. Relying on walks and homers….

SP. Webb, Cobb, Manaea, Stripling DeSclafani/Wood.  Webb now only potential ace.  Added pressure. Cobb solid. Rest 4/5. Let’s hope Manaea rebounds.

Bullpen may be good.  But that’s a crapshoot.
