Niners will try to take the air out of the ball as much as possible. Shorten the game. They can win a game in low to mid 20’s. I don’t think they can win a high scoring game. It’s not what they are built to do.
A great example of their mind set was end of first half when Shanahan let clock run in last minute. I thought at the time that it was poor clock management. But his explanation - “I liked where we were at the time” 6-6, made sense. He recognized that he was in a defensive game and wasn’t going to risk a key turnover - or giving it back to Dallas with time left. One certainly can argue with that. But it’s a reasonable thought process. And I’m glad he’s not one of those coaches that simply goes by whatever the computer says you do. Games have feels to them. That should go into the mix when key “aggressive” vs “conservative “ decisions are made. One size does not fit all.
