Chimera, could the answer have to do with all the transfers?  Several other teams have put together very talented rosters using transfers.  But on the transfer-centric teams, the whole seems often to be less than the sum of its parts.

Very possible.  Wholesale changes like UA did and like what Oregon has done recently haven't gotten them to the next level.  I absolutely hate all the transfers.  Takes the fun out of it if top teams can just poach the better players off lesser teams.  UConn would be much worse without their transfers.  Utah added Pili, which has helped them a lot, but that was one player in, not a bunch out and a bunch more in.
