That is where the MONEY is.  It seems to me that the current administration, including the BoT has forgotten Stanford is a University that offers undergraduate degrees, and those young students are not immediately concerned with Masters, Doctorates, Research etc.  I am sure there are some very qualified people out there who get that a University is many things, and not just a source of research and the money it generates.  Look where that has some of our more recent graduates.  We should be more about education and the experience going to college or a university provides and that includes sports teams of all sorts, get out have fun and grow.

This tension has existed at least 30 years dating back to when I was an undergrad, and I am sure much longer.  And it's an issue that is hardly exclusive to Stanford.
