The team played some good ball today.

Great game by MOC, 12 assists and only 3 TO.  On a night when the guys were feeling it, he did what he needed to do, he got the ball to the guys who had the hot hands.  50 percent from 3pt range against the best 3pt defensive team in the conference is not a bad day at the office.

Hmm. I was there and thought MOC was shaky. Don't get me wrong, the stats are nice and he's as sure-handed as we have, but he struggled to get the ball upcourt against constant pressure and was often slightly out of control. Seems like he has totally lost confidence in his shot too, judging on his passing up several wide-open looks from 3. And his penetration continues to be poor. I'd have to watch film (which I'm not going to do) on those 12 assists, but swinging the ball around the perimeter to the guy that ends up scoring is how I remember a bunch of his assists and those are cheapies imo. Still, I like MOC well enough and he's the best we got at that position. 

Anyway, it was a good win. Like most every time I'm at Maples, I look at this team and can't figure out how it's not a NCAA Tournament team given the talent that it has. Of course, like literally every time, I blame Haase's incompetence!

MOC is not a scorer except for one rather amazing outing and he can't really break his man down off the dribble and take the ball to the hoop.  When the flow of the game gives him a path he takes it, but the way the game started he didn't need to shoot or score, he simply needed to take care of the ball relatively well, which is the best he can do usually, and get the ball to an open man.  He did those things well. 
We don't have a point guard in the mold of Brevin or Hernandez or anyone like them.  I thought Isa might be someone like that but he is prone to take the ball into places he can't get out of and then throw the ball away.   
All of our guys seem to make brain dead, telegraphed passes now and then.  Last night it didn't make too much of a difference when we did make a few of those. We played good defense although we got a way with a lot of bad mismatches as the result of our incessant switching.  We moved the ball well, didn't end up having to make a bunch of desperation shots as the clock ran out and handled the press about as well as we can handle a press.
My point was last night MOC did what he needed to do and didn't try and be someone he is not, a driver or a scorer.  He is best when the shots are falling for our scorers and we move the ball and play unselfish basketball.
