I don't recall the situation from several years back, but how does a college freshman miss a part of the season due to an AP Calculus grade? Isn't AP Calculus, by definition, a high school class?

My guess is that his admission had been conditional on keeping up his high school grades, maybe in particular getting some minimum grade on his AP classes. Then when that grade was too low, instead of denying him admission, the powers that be compromised by requiring him to do some make up work before he could play basketball.

Of course this is just my thought.
